Do you ever see things and notice they’re just a bit “off-script?” Do you take the time to notice them? I did a challenge about 16 years ago, and **get ready for the most Millennial thing you’ve heard today** the said-challenge was to take (and post, of course!) one picture a day for a solid year. Project 365. Cute, huh? An old college friend was doing it, so I followed suit after seeing some of her posts. What I found most interesting is that it really trained me to notice the smallest idiosyncrasies in the patterns of everyday and to purposefully look for things often looked over. I mean—I had to find content, right? I don’t believe I’ve ever rid myself of the habit. It’s strange how a Facebook trend can teach you something worthwhile, if you allow it.

Anyway, this was from June 12, 2023.

“👟 RSD 1140 ✅ Today’s Verse: “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me & heard my cry.” — Psalm 40:1

This isn’t a black and white photo: it really is a grey stop sign (I saw it today while driving). So, when I began to look for today’s verse, Psalm 40:1 seemed to fit (you know, the words “waited patiently”). Look, life is difficult—not all the time, but sometimes it’s not a cool customer. All the busyness and “need” to “keep the grind” going and negative changes in fortune and pressures we all go through can be frustrating and overwhelming. Sometimes, it can just suck. Plain English. Maybe when life misbehaves for us, we just need to stop trying so hard and wait for God to do His thing.

So, I saw this grey, cracked stop sign today, and the numbers worked out for this to be today’s verse. Take from that what you will. Because, it being faded and grey and cracked means it’s noticeable and weathered. How many stop signs did you see today? I would venture to guess that you have no idea how many or where they were. They were probably all vibrant and red, and the same thing that you see all the time that says, “stop,” but everybody really sees it as “get this pause over with so I can GO.” But, this stop sign: you’ll remember this one. You would turn your head like I did and probably sarcastically say, “really?” But, this one got your attention didn’t it? Stop when you need to. Take a minute. The world won’t stop spinning (it actually wobbles a little, but that’s to the left of the point). Here’s your sign. Literally.”
